ABOUTUsing clean lines, fragmented shapes, and natural elements, Be explores the construction of identity in its many forms.
Within their figurative subjects, Be subverts traditional aspects of masculinity and femininity while elevating symbols of the natural world to take on the same significance as the body. Ultimately, Be’s work moves past notions of gender (and other borders) to questions about humanness in general: what makes a body feminine, masculine, human, or natural? Be Tattoo integrates abstract elements with sparing texture to give their subjects room to breathe. Rather than make concrete statements, Be’s tattoos remain open to the ways in which new layers of meaning are added organically over time. In this way, the queer body is given space to become itself.
